This is a story about an eleven year old girl who should be out playing and having fun.
But reality is totally different.
Her days are spent wondering whether she will get food to eat once a day or not at all.
Wondering if her mother will get well and come home from the hospital.
Wondering whether her sister's, who are themselves young - 15 years and 18 years, will still have their temporary jobs or not.
A household of 5 member, with the mother in hospital and father unemployed, they do with Rs. 3000/- per month, which her sister's earn.
The sister's, though uneducated, want Pooja to study as she is a bright student, Pooja is not only good in studies, she likes painting and dancing, wanting to learn new things at Nai Disha.
We, at Nai Disha are trying to make sure that Pooja gets at least one meal a day for the whole family from the food that is fed to all the children in the school.

Gudiya says she wants to be a doctor. Asked why? She is fascinated or likes the way a doctor treats and cares other people. With money earned, she would like to give it to her parents. Her best moments are when her parents appreciate her for finishing her household chores well.
At times she is lost in her own thoughts as she heads to finish her home-work, which she couldn't complete earlier. It is hard to believe that with her tiny hands, every day, she cooks for the family of nine people early morning before her mom leaves to pick garbage and father for some kothi. Then she'll wash clothes, utensils, clean up the room; sweep and mop before leaving for school, which is in the afternoon. She is supposed to bathe her two younger sisters as well.
Looking at her one feels how unfair life, situation and society is towards her. We at nai disha have given her a new found hope for a better future, the one that she would choose for herself. In few years we hope that the training recd and efforts put by her and school wil empower and educate her for a brighter tomorrow.

Shabnam is a 15 year old studying in class V at Nai Disha. An average student, her story is totally different. Her father is an electrician, mother a housewife and 2 young sisters. Her plight was that for being a girl her father used to beat her with sticks and belts. A day came when Shabnam came to school crying and sobbing. She was in such pain that she could not even sit down. That was when the teacher's of Nai Disha thought enough was enough. They asked Shabnam to call her father without telling him why. He never came. But from that day, according to Shabnam, he stopped beating her and her sister's! That was the day of rejoicing at Nai Disha!
